Childrens Multivitamins
Summary
Although it is an area of some debate, children are more susceptible to vitamin and mineral deficiencies than adults are. This is because their immune systems are not yet fully developed, and therefore rely on nutrition to provide some protection from infection.
It is argued that children should be able to get all the vitamins they need through their diet, but not many children actually eat a healthy balanced diet. Children are often fussy eaters and with the growing popularity of fast food and eating out, it is far harder to ensure that your child is getting what he/she needs.
Multivitamins are the most effective way to ensure that your child is receiving the nutrients that he/she needs to grow and develop healthily. It is advised that children around 1 year old start taking a good quality Children’s Multivitamin.
It is still important to give your child a health, balanced diet as a multivitamin supplement makes up for any deficiencies and does not compensate for a poor diet. A liquid multivitamin is best as it is easier to swallow and is absorbed more quickly into the body.
Some children may be unable to cope with tablets at such a young age, and generally chewable forms of multivitamins are available for children of 3-6yrs and over.
