Summary
Folic Acid is necessary for DNA and RNA synthesis – essential for the growth and reproduction of all cells in the body. It is essential in the formation of red blood cells due to the action on bone marrow.
Folic Acid aids in the metabolism of amino acids and is a coenzyme in the creation of DNA.
Folic Acid promotes a healthy pregnancy – regulates the development of the Central Nervous System of the foetus. It is recommended that women take 400ug of folic acid prior to conception and during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Studies have shown that even with a good diet extra nutrients may be necessary prior to and during pregnancy.
