    Zinc can be used to Treat

  • The common cold. It can half the duration of the illness. It affects the facial nerve endings and dries up the nose, so prevents the virus from multiplying.
  • AIDS – to boost the immune system.
  • Eyesight – as zinc is involved in ensuring that the retina functions well.
  • Sexual function – men deficient in zinc have reduced testosterone levels.
  • Benign prostatic hyperplasia.
  • Head injuries – as zinc is used in the production of neurotransmitters.

    Normal Dosage

    15-25mg daily to prevent deficiencies. Other conditions: up to 50mg 3x daily under the supervision of a qualified practitioner.

    Possible Side Effects

    Doses over 300mg a day can interfere with immune system functioning. If taken in lozenge form it may cause stomach upset, nausea, mouth irritation and a bad taste. Zinc interferes with Copper absorption, so it may be necessary to take a supplement with a small amount of copper. Take a multivitamin along with zinc if you are taking a high dose zinc supplement over a long period of time.
